Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the differences in silicone and saline implants?

Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel, which is thick gel similar in consistency to human fat, and saline implants are made with a silicone outer shell filled with sterile saline (salt) water. Both types of breast implants are approved by the FDA and considered safe and during your consultation, Dr. Gabbay will discuss the differences and help you decide which is best implant for your desired look.

Will my breasts look natural after my breast reconstruction?

Struggling with a mastectomy after breast cancer can be devastating and Dr. Gabbay is committed to helping a cancer victim by restoring a natural looking breast.  To achieve this, he uses a variety of incision types and surgical flap methods combining his expertise and skill to provide exceptional results.

Will I be able to breastfeed after breast surgery?

It is safe to breastfeed after a breast augmentation or breast lift however it may be difficult depending on the type of surgery you had.  During your consultation, you should discuss your concerns with Dr. Gabbay.

What breast implant size is right for me?

Most women considering breast augmentation are concerned that they choose the right size.  It is good to have an idea in mind (such as a photo) but the best way to determine the appropriate size is by a professional, such as Dr. Gabbay.  Through his training and experience, he will assess your particular anatomy from bone structure to your body type and with his expertise recommendation; the proper implant size will be determined during your consultation.

Can I have a breast lift and a breast augmentation at the same time?

Sometimes it takes more than one procedure to achieve an optimal outcome and many times a breast augmentation with lift is considered one procedure although it can be performed in one or two stages.  For one stage, implants are placed during a breast lift and if it is performed in two stages, the breast lift will be done first and the implants will be placed at a later date.

Is there anything I can do to minimize scarring?

Women choose breast surgery to enhance their appearance so it is natural to worry about scarring.  For any surgery, there is no way to avoid scarring altogether but Dr. Gabbay is committed to making every effort to minimize scarring by placing incisions in inconspicuous locations.

Do breast implants sag over time?

All breasts relax with time because weight and gravity stretches the skin, elasticity diminishes with age, and the amount of breast tissue often decreases the older a person gets.  Breasts relax and sag with or without implants although implants do add weight to the breast that may increase the rate of relaxation.  On the other hand, implants and surrounding scar tissue can provide some internal support for the breasts and wearing a properly fitting bra minimizes sagging.

What gives the breast its shape?

The breast consists of milk ducts and glands, surrounded by fatty tissue and that provides its shape along with your personal anatomy and the genetic characteristics you inherited.

When will I be able to drive after breast surgery?

Depending on the breast procedure you had performed, most patients are allowed to drive once pain medication has been discontinued typically 4-5 days.

Will I need help after breast surgery?
